BoJack Horseman - 2025

ㅤㅤ4/18/2025
It was alright. The first season was a bit slow, but I really liked it. I loved the ending. It was nice and hopeful. At first I didn't realize there was more than one season. So I thought, 'this is what people were hyped for huh?' When I learned there were more seasons, I was excited! I guessed it would pick up. Honestly though, by the end end of the show I had the same feeling. The show's BEST moments are definitely beyond season 1, but I feel like BoJack shows you everything it has to offer in season one. I especially loved the last couple of seasons. They got really experimental with the episodes and Free Churro was AMAZING (That's Too Much, Man! is my favorite). The rest of the show is a journey of recovery and all the ugly, ugly relapses into depravity. And that's fine, but if I stopped at the end of season one I think my takeaway would be largely the same. Except, I wouldn't dislike BoJack as much. There were moments where I needed a break from how depressingly shitty BoJack is. I think it's interesting when shows have protagonists who are just assholes and not supposed to be likeable or someone you strive to be, like the medical drama, House. Ultimately though, by the end of BoJack's second season you understand that 'oh, so this is how it's going to go huh.' People trying to be better but failing miserably everytime through their own faults or external forces or a mix of both. It continues on like this for its entirety. It becomes kind of one note. Never once did I have my hopes up, and disappointly that was the right thing to do. Through each failing though, BoJack does learn a little. In a way, it's good how slow they made BoJack's journey to recovery because that's reality. Something else that bugged me is how rich BoJack is. No matter how many times he messes up, he's always fine because he has a bed of cash to land on. There was a short period where he runs out, but that is solved pretty quickly. Money doesn't solve everything, but BoJack's life would be so much worse off if he had less money. He has the resources he needs to get better that so many people lack. I guess it's an accurate commentary of celebraties and it's supposed to frustrate you. BoJack is wasting it all. And that would be a good message if it wasn't constantly used to just write things off. It felt like a cheap pancea to a lot of situations where it would've been interesting to see a problem solved without money, deus ex pecunia(money). I'd love to see a show like BoJack, but with ordinary people.
Anywho, thanks for reading my first ever blog entry. In the future, I'll make reviews at the end of every season for shows that I watch instead of an overall thing like this. I think that'll be better because it'll be less messy and less of a blorb of thoughts.

Final Rating: 6.5/10
